The Hypnobabies Approach to Childbirth

Picture
The belief underlying the Hypnobabies approach to childbirth is that each woman and each baby are capable of — and deserve — a comfortable, easy, gentle, and joyful birth.

The Hypnobabies class offers complete Pre-Natal instruction in addition to training in self- hypnosis. All aspects of labor and birth are covered, and parents also receive tips on nutrition & exercise; techniques for avoiding complications and fear clearing; suggestions about birth plans, and information about consumer issues. Along with this comes training in self-hypnosis for childbirth. While learning self-hypnosis skills, parents are taught how the uterine muscles can work efficiently when the body is completely relaxed. The necessary depth of relaxation is easily achieved with hypnosis, and parents learn how to do this in class, and through daily practice at home. The results? Hypno-moms are calmer and more relaxed during labor, which gives them a greater degree of comfort.  Mothers who practice their skills daily are able to to enter self-hypnosis instantly and create their own natural anesthesia whenever and wherever they need it. They can move, speak, and drink while in hypnosis, which allows them to change positions, use the toilet, and nourish themselves as needed. Note: The hypnosis-induced natural anesthesia used by Hypnobabies moms is similar to the hypnotic anesthesia used by dental or surgical patients who have allergies to the drugs used for medical anesthesia.

Statistics based on women who have taken the Hypnobabies class show that:
  • 70% of the moms report that they felt mostly pressure & tightening sensations, with little discomfort, during their entire labor
  • 10-15% of the moms report that they felt pressure only until transition, and mild to intense sensations thereafter
  • 10-15% of the moms report that they felt comfortable until active labor, with mild to intense sensations thereafter.
